Program Yourself For Success

mind & meaning Sep 28, 2019

Have you ever stopped to consider what you believe and why you believe it?

Most people are surprised to learn that the majority of their beliefs, especially about the big areas of their life like health, love, work and money, came from when they were very young. You see, we got programmed as children, typically before the age of 7. We borrowed all kinds of programs from our parents, relatives, friends, teachers, what we saw on TV and so on. We had experiences and decided, “this I how it is”. And, we stored all of those beliefs at a subconscious level. In fact, your subconscious mind is like a huge memory bank. It has permanently stored every experience you ever had, along with the meaning you gave to those events.

Did you know that your subconscious belief systems are dictating most of your thoughts and behavior on a moment-by-moment basis? And, that’s a problem because most of those beliefs are not actually true!

For example, a client of mine wanted to grow her business and needed to expand her networking efforts. The problem is that she felt uncomfortable networking and continuously self-sabotaged herself by not taking the actions that she needed to take. When she uncovered the subconscious programs that were driving this pattern of behavior, she realized that she believed she’s not smart or interesting enough. Although this made no logical sense, she believed at a deep level that people would find her boring or think that she was not very intelligent. So, her subconscious mind did its best to keep her from getting hurt by finding ways to avoid networking opportunities.

“All of us have our own inner fears, beliefs, opinions. These inner assumptions rule and govern our lives. A suggestion has no power in and of itself. Its power arises from the fact that you accept it mentally.”

Joseph Murphy, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind

You see, your conscious mind is made up of your surface thoughts, wishes and aspirations. On the other hand, your subconscious mind is the realm of your automatic and habitual thought patterns and beliefs – the stuff you do when you don’t even know that you’re doing it. You can think of your subconscious mind like the auto-pilot feature on an airplane. It has been pre-programmed to follow a speciļ¬c route, and you can’t deviate from that route unless you change the program.

Like my client, it is likely that there are things you desire to change or improve in your life. In order to achieve those desires, your subconscious programs must be aligned with them. In other words, if you have any negative or limiting beliefs, you may find yourself self-sabotaging or simply stuck.

How do you know if you have any limiting subconscious programs?

In general, if there is something that you struggle to achieve in your life, it is because you have programs that do not support that desire. For example, many people have a conscious goal to progress in their career or business. If they believe at a subconscious level that they are not good enough or that this advancement might limit their ability to do things they love to do (e.g, spend time with their family), they may somehow block themselves from doing the things they need to do to get the results they want.

“The only thing that’s keeping you from getting what you want is the story you keep telling yourself.”

– Tony Robbins

So, if there is any pattern in your life that does not serve you or any area of your life that is not the way you want it to be, ask yourself “What do I believe about this?” and capture any beliefs that are not aligned with what you want to achieve.

You may be wondering, “Can I reprogram my subconscious mind?”  YES! You can absolutely reprogram your subconscious mind. One of the ways to quickly change your subconscious beliefs is through hypnosis, which allows you to enter that same low-vibrational frequency state that your brain was operating in during the first seven years. Other effective ways that work directly with the subconscious mind are Time Line Therapy®, Psych-K®, Rapid Transformational Therapy®, and Havening Techniques®. I use these and other techniques with clients to help them quickly release limiting beliefs and negative emotions from the past.

Another way to change your beliefs is through repetition. After you were about 7 years old, you formed habits by repeating something over and over again. For example, when you learned the multiplication chart or how to ride a bicycle. You practiced, practiced, practiced. Therefore, to create a lasting change, you can utilize the power of repetition. That is how you condition your mind and form new habits. It is how to reprogram your subconscious mind.

Here are some additional tips to help you program yourself for success:

1. CHANGE YOUR ANTS

Out of the 70,000 thoughts that adults have on average every day, over 80% are automatic negative thoughts, or ANTs. They are subconscious thoughts that many of us are not aware of until it is too late. Becoming conscious of those messages can prevent a downward spiral of negativity. So, the next time you notice a negative thought, ask yourself, “How true is this?”. Chances are that you simply “borrowed” that belief from someone when you were a kid without knowing any better. Once you become aware of that belief, ask yourself, “What do I want to believe instead?”. Then, repeat that new mindset often and take actions that are aligned with it.

2. VISUALIZE YOUR SUCCESS

Take time out of your busy day, particularly first thing in the morning and right before you fall asleep, to ask yourself questions like, “What do I want my day to look like?” and “How do I want to show up with the people in my life?” Spend 10-15 minutes each day visualizing your life as if you have already achieved your goals. Imagine what you will see, hear, and FEEL when you get it. Your subconscious mind will absorb the feelings in your images as if they were real, providing you with the ideas and confidence you need to make your goals come true.

3. CHOOSE YOUR ENVIRONMENT

When reprogramming your brain for success, it is important to limit negative influences from your environment. There may be people in your life that are “toxic” and do not support your goals, or you may absorb negative programming from the news, social media, and other sources. All of these can have a significant effect on your subconscious mind without you even knowing it. Make an effort to create more empowering subconscious programs by surrounding yourself with people who are positive and supportive. Seek opportunities to watch, read, and listen to empowering information and music.

Over time, you will notice that your thoughts are more encouraging and that your limiting beliefs have greatly diminished. And that is the true power of subconscious mind programming.
